Serum Institute of India has provided information to the government that they are expecting to manufacture as well as supply about 9 – 10 crore of Covishield doses, this June.
They have given a written statement to Home Minister, Amit Shah saying that their employees are working round the clock to effectively meet this target.
According to their statement, they have been working very hard to successfully manufacture the vaccines amid the different challenges that are arising due to this pandemic situation.
After receiving a lot of complaints by states regarding the lack of COVID-19 vaccine, this news is a relief for every people.
The production capacity of SII was 6.5 crore doses in May. So, their decision to increase the production capacity is very big.
Mr. Prakash Kumar Singh, the Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs at SII has thanked Mr. Shah for his continuous support and guidance at different stages of their endeavor to make self-sufficient or aatmanirbhar India in COVID-19 vaccines and its availability all over the country.
SII has taken the initiative to ensure the protection of the citizens of India and the world from COVID-19.
Currently, India is making use of only made-in-India vaccines namely Covaxin manufactured by Bharat Biotech as well as Covishield by Serum Institute of India (SII).
The 3rd vaccine known as the Russian Sputnik V also got approval from the DCGI or Drug Controller General of India for emergency use. But, this is being used only in a few private hospitals.
